SPOTIFY PREMIUM FOR $1.66 PER MONTH
WHAT?
I'm sure that most of you reading this are wondering how I get Spotify Premium for under $2 a month. I will get to that, but first, let me give you a backstory.
I started using Spotify over two years ago. I made my account after I got a year's worth of free premium subscription after getting a new phone with Rogers (one of the largest Canadian carriers).
I am an avid music lover, in fact, I play and teach guitar part-time. Having premium made it extremely easy for me to listen to music, download it, and use it while I was teaching. Once my subscription was over I could not stand the annoying ads and restrictions that the free version had.
I was hooked to premium. I needed to find a way to get it for a cheaper price.
THE NORMAL COST
Spotify premium currently costs $9.99 CAD in Canada and $9.99 US in America per month for the premium subscription. The tax is included within the price which is nice.
This means it would cost me $119.88 a year.
$9.99 x 12 months = $119.88
I thought this to be a little too high of a price for me to justify, and so I did some research in order to find a better deal.
Here's what I found.
1) STUDENT DISCOUNT?
Online I was able to find a STUDENT DISCOUNT. This reduced the price down to $4.99 per month.
In order to receive this discount, you must be a student enrolled in a post-secondary institution. You are required to sign in to your school ID to get the discount.
NOT A STUDENT, that's okay. All you really need is to know a student that would feel comfortable sharing and account with you. This could be your son or daughter, niece or nephew, cousin or friend.
2) SHARING?
The next thing I did was asked my friends and family if they wanted to split an account with me. In the end, my sister joined in as well as one of my friends. This reduced my cost by 3.
$4.99 / 3 people = $1.66 each person per month
It is important to realize that if you do this you are not each getting an account. This means that if my friend or sister favourites a song it will appear in my favourites as well. This happens because all you are doing is just signing in to the same account on different devices.
To combat this issue we each have our own playlist. This helps to keep everyone's music organized.
It is also important to recognize that only one person can listen at a time online. This may seem horrible, but all you really have to do is turn on offline mode and listen to the songs you have downloaded offline if someone else is online.
Luckily for me, the people that I share Spotify with do not use it as often as I do. I would make the prediction that only 1/4 times when I go on Spotify someone else is listening online. This does not bother me much because I have a large selection of music downloaded offline.
Make sure that you are sharing with someone that you know will not listen to music that often because then you may never be able to listen online!
LET'S COMPARE THE NUMBERS
Standard Price: $9.99 x 12 months = $119.88
My Price: $1.66 x 12 months = $19.92
I SAVE A TOTAL OF 84%.
I hope that after reading this article you could realize that there are many ways to save money. All you really have to do is put in some time to research deals and you can find a great price.
